Training

Our trainers are specialists in their fields and experienced in actually carrying out the relevant tasks as well as in training. We offer sessions either at your own premises or at one of several training venues around the country. We also cooperate regularly with a number of Regional Support Centres who are sometimes able to reduce your training costs by getting a number of organisations together for a single training session.

Standard training sessions , which can be adapted if required, include

Training sessions which take place at your own institution can last from half a day to several days and can be adapted and tailored to your specific needs. We have delivered sessions in many parts of the UK, including Scotland and Wales, and even in Spain and New Zealand - but only in the English language!

All sessions include substantial hands-on practice, and are are backed up by online versions containing all course materials and activities; trainees normally have access to these materials for a period of one month from the date of the training for reinforcement and reference.

Training costs are based on £450 per day plus expenses and may vary according to number of attendees and content of sessions.

Session outlines

Moodle Administration - One day introduction and/or one day advanced

Target trainees: Moodle Administrators and Coordinators. Technical support staff supporting Moodle.

Content: Working with Moodle at Administrator level is a rewarding and fascinating job, but you need a really good grounding in the many functions and facilities which you control. Whatever aspect of the role you need - whether it's customising the appearance of Moodle, working with technical staff to add functionality, working with teachers to enhance learning or simply being aware of all the day to day tasks - you will find it covered in these sessions. Although many Moodle Administrators do not have direct access to their servers, these sessions demonstrate some server techniques to build an outline awareness of how themes and addons work, but technical terms are avoided as far as possible, and no technical knowledge is required.

Day 1 covers the basics:

Day 2 (which is optional) goes deeper into some of the above aspects but also covers many extras including:

Full details of both days are available on request to info@learningobjectivity.com

Moodle teaching - Half or one day

Target trainees: Teachers who are new to Moodle but are reasonably computer-literate

Content: The initial half-day session equips teachers to create and maintain a basic course, allowing teachers to support learners online and to carry out simple but useful administration and communication functions. It includes

  • Structuring courses for usability and ease of access
  • Basic course settings
  • Uploading documents (and how to make them fully available to learners)
  • Changing the basic appearance of a Moodle course using blocks and images
  • Using messaging and other ways of contacting users
The subsequent half-day prepares teachers to move on to embedding real learning in a course, including the use of online learning materials to enhance the student learning experience and give additional revision and reinforcement of classroom learning.

  • Embedding ready made learning materials
  • Using quizzes and games
  • Interactive tools including forums and glossaries
  • Personalising learning through My Moodle and an eportfolio
Each session includes demonstrations of required techniques and hands-on practice, plus a detailed step-by-step online practice guide for teachers to use while preparing and maintaining their Moodle courses.
